National Service Scheme is a noble experiment in the academic sphere. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among the students and teachers through sustained community interactions.

Membership: – Membership in N.S.S. organization is voluntary, strictly on selective basis and is open for both boys and girls. Each student is subject to its discipline and code of behaviour. Every student attending the N.S.S. will be required to work the minimum of time equivalent to 120 hours each academic year. Those who complete 240 hours of work in 2 years and also attend a 10 day camp are eligible to get a certificate and grace grade points from the University.

Application:- Application for enrolment will be called for by the Programme Officer of the Unit at the beginning of each academic year. Membership in N.S.S. and a certificate to that effect from the University will be treated as additional qualification for admission in higher studies and recruitments to public service/jobs.

SCHOOL ADOPTION

D B College NSS Unit – 13 adopted St. Michael’s U.P. Schools, situated in our locality as the part of NSS MGU school adoption program.

PUTHUPALLY ELECTION

NSS volunteers and one PO actively participated in organizing and conducting Puthupally election on Sept 4, 5 2023.

TEACHER’S DAY

NSS Unit of D B College celebrated Teacher’s Day on September 5 2023, to thank and cherish our teachers. The volunteers prepared handmade bookmarks inscribed with quotes reflecting the importance and role of our teachers in our life. The bookmarks were distributed to all teaching faculties of the college on Teacher’s day.

ORIENTATION CAMP FOR FIRST YEAR NSS VOLUNTEERS

A two – day residential orientation camp for first year NSS volunteers was conducted on 15 and 16 of September 2023. The program was inaugurated by Honorable panchayath president Ms. Shajimol and presided over by Vice Principal Ms. Beenamol K P. The occasion was felicitated by IQAC Coordinator Dr. Deepa CS, Panchayath Janakshema Standing Committee chairperson Ms. Lisamma Joseph, Former NSS Program officers Ms. Indu and Dr. Sandhya V Satheesh.

The two – day program offered various sessions for students on understanding the importance of NSS and duties of a volunteers together with programs on developing group dynamics and leadership qualities. The sessions were handled by NSS Pos and former POs from various colleges. The camp was also visited by MG university NSS program coordinator Dr EN Sivadasan who addressed the students.

A total of 78 first year students participated in the camp.

WORLD BAMBOO DAY

NSS D B College Unit and Biodiversity Club jointly organized World Bamboo Day celebrations on 18/09/2023 to create awareness among students on the importance of Bamboo in our ecosystem. The program included a seminar by Dr Arathy M S, department of Botany, D B College, followed by planting of bamboo saplings in the campus. The students also cleaned the existing bamboo forest inside the campus. The program was inaugurated by vice principal Ms. Beenamol K P and a total of 68 students participated in the programs.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

NSS D B College Unit and Debate Club jointly organized International Day of Peace celebrations on 21/09/2023 to strengthen the idea of peace among students. An elocution competition on the topic ‘What the great wars taught us?’ was conducted and 10 students from various departments participated. The elocution competition was judged by Mr. Asish Martin Tom, Debate Club coordinator, Dr. Remya. G, H.O.D, Dept of Malayalam and Dr Malini Murali, Dept of English. Vice principal Ms. Beenamol K. P. awarded the winners with cash prize. Around 50 students attended the program.

ENROLLMENT

The enrollment of First year volunteers were completed by Sept 20 and a total of 100 students enrolled.

Gandhi Jayanthi Quiz

In connection with Gandhi Jayanthi, a quiz program ‘Gandhiye Ariyan’ was conducted for the students of our adopted school. The quiz was organized by NSS volunteers from PG classes.

The quiz comprised of a preliminary round in which around 90 students from 5, 6 and 7th standard participated. Out of them 13 students were selected for the final round. Three winners emerged at the end of the program.

Trophies and certificates were distributed to the winners.

Gandhi Jayanthi Rally

NSS D B College Unit commemorated the birthday of our Father of Nation on Oct 2, 2023. The volunteers participated in a Gandhi jayanthi rally organized by Thalayolaparambu gramapanchayat. The rally started from A I John School and ended at the panchayath office. Apart from NSS volunteers of College unit, other volunteers from schools, volunteers of kudumbasree and harithasena etc. participated in the program. The students also took the swachatha pledge.

POTHICHORU

The volunteers of NSS unit have initiated a lunch distribution program in a nearby palliative care center once in every month. Pothichoru, homemade lunch packets are collected from the students of the campus and are delivered to the inmates of the centre. A group of 15 volunteers are dedicated for this regular activity.
